DESIGN COMMUNICATION

This module is meant to introduce design communication skills through architectural graphics and modelling and it also develop skills in visualisation and communication architectural ideas space and forms.

The learning outcomes of the module include:

  • A student being  able to identify the types of architectural design communication.

  • illustrate architectural forms and spaces through visualisation and expression of space in the form of free hand drawing

  • Analyse visual information using 2D and 3D technical drawings and Architectural models which will demonstrate the ideas of space and form.

  • Produce architectural ideas and designs through 2D and 3D technical drawings.

  • Produce an architectural model which demonstrates the ideas of space and form.

CONTENT OF WORK

  • PROJECT 1: ON-SITE SKETCHING

  • PROJECT 2(STEVEN HOLL-EX OF IN HOSE)

  1. PROJECT 2A: ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION

  2. PROJECT 2B: AXONOMETRIC PROJECTION

  3. PROJECT 2C: PERSPECTIVE

  • PROJECT 3: FINISHING AND PRESENTATION

PROJECT 1: ON SITE SKETCHING

On-site sketching helped me to understand the space in Architecture and develop skills in visualising space through observation and perception of specific site. together with that I got to explore the basic techniques in creating tonal values that can bring out different basic techniques that can bring out different moods in drawings.

PROJECT 2A: ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION

Besides learning the ways and skills of using drafting tools I have also learnt various architectural convections and symbols as well as different line types, line weights and line qualities, to help in communicating the drawings.

PROJECT 2B: AXONOMETRICS

With the exploded and external axonometric projection I have a better understanding of the architectural detail and spatial value of the selected building.

PROJECT 2C: PERSPECTIVE

Before constructing a perspective drawing I had to understand clearly the relationship between a 2D and a 3D in Architectural graphics. I personally feel that perspective is interesting as one can manipulate countless ways looking at an object, and this is expressed in a 3 dimensional Idea.

PROJECT 3: FINISHING AND PRESENTATION

through this project I have learned to visually communicate my idea and my own design to others. And I also had to work efficiently within a set of time to produce a good work.
